What is the purpose of the pilot?
Utilising the alliances collective buying power to optimise supply chain sustainability in the most efficient and cost-effective way for the hospitality industry. Greenwashing especially with dry amenities is rampant and members need to have access to the most up to date and relevant information to help them make key decisions on implementing these changes internally whilst also making cost savings.
Each member will have access to ESG credits through purchasing these products at no cost to them or the alliance. This ESG reporting will directly benefit the alliance members on their ESG goals throughout the year and will allow them to direct these credits towards their own specific projects or directly back to the Alliance.
What products are in the pack?
We are working towards providing the full pack which will consist of toothbrush, toothpaste (separate and together as a dental kit), razor, shaving cream (separate and together as a shaving kit), mouthwash, comb, hairbrush, sewing kit, vanity kit (made up of nail file, cotton buds and facial pads or whichever combination but also available separately), cotton balls, shower cap, hygiene bag, sanitary kit (made up of pads and bags), shoe horn, shoe mitt, loofah.
Is the pack customisable?
The Amenities Pack is fully customisable. Each brand/hotel can decide on how the products are branded as well as what packaging is used and which of the vetted products is chosen for their own version of the Pack.
What is the expected saving?
There will be significant cost savings, the higher the volume the greater the discounts. The success of this project is about bringing the best in class sustainable and ethical available products to the members and making them accessible for all at reduced rates that are derived from the Alliance’s collective buying power.
How do we know that the pack is truly Planet Conscious?
The manufacturers and products are being fully vetted, verified and certified by Deep Trace a global risk consultancy specialising in human rights due diligence and supply chain impact tracing. This will enable us to identify and address human rights and environmental risks and implement measures to prevent and mitigate adverse impacts.
We have created strategic partnerships with the best carbon calculators so we will be able to share the carbon footprint of the pack and what we are doing to make it net positive. Our partners not only help with measuring the carbon footprint of products, but their tool uses a detailed database of emissions factors to calculate the total carbon emissions produced at each stage. This promotes transparency and encourages businesses to adopt more sustainable practices thus supporting BB’s and WSHA’s global efforts to reduce carbon emissions through the purchase of each of the amenity’s pack or individual products. Another one of our partners investigates each stage of a product's lifecycle, from raw material acquisition to disposal. Through data concerning manufacturing processes, transportation methods, and packaging materials, we can precisely evaluate the carbon emissions associated with every phase of a product's lifecycle. This information and data will in turn allow hotels to quantifiably report on the Carbon impact by choosing these products.
Each element of the full Amenity Pack has been taken apart and been thoroughly evaluated and verified to find the best in class currently available in the market whilst staying within a price range for hotels. Bespoke switches have been made that remove more plastic from the kit and replace materials with sustainable options. It is not just the products but the packaging too and the end-of-life options for each.
Beyond Bamboo’s bespoke gold standard ‘Essential Criteria’ process means that not only are the manufacturers but also each individual product and packaging goes through a rigorous and stringent vetting and verification process to ensure that it is not only the best in class sustainably but also ethically sourced. This ensures that you get full transparency and no greenwashing whilst also considering the end of life and circularity of each product. By purchasing these products through the Alliance, members will be able to avail of Beyond Bamboo’s ESG Credits. These credits will be allocated towards local and global ESG projects and contribute to their ESG goals and reporting. At the end of the year each member that purchases products through the Alliance or Beyond Bamboo will receive a detailed report on the amount of ESG credits their business obtained and the projects they supported.
We are also partnering with a global logistics, distribution, warehousing and compliance organisation that renowned for their sustainable practices. Through this partnership we will be offering opportunities for cross-member bulk ordering and warehousing to reduce environmental impact for delivery and storage,
What is the timeline and commitment expectation for the pilot?
We would like to confirm pilot participants by end of July with expected launch before end of Q3 2024. The commitment expectation will be totally flexible based on the requirements of the brands and hotels. We will be asking the pilot participants to support further development of the Amenities Pack with feedback and recommendations in all areas of the project.
