Projects We Support
Community Volunteering – People’s Kitchen (London)
Beyond Bamboo Global team members have participated in volunteering activities at People’s Kitchen in London, a community initiative delivering nutritious meals to individuals in need through monthly volunteer-led sessions.
Team members supported meal preparation, set-up activities, and food distribution alongside other volunteers and community partners. The initiative also contributes to food waste reduction by redistributing surplus food from local businesses such as cafés and restaurants.
The experience highlighted the importance of community engagement, social inclusion, and collective action in addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable individuals within local communities.
Some of our team shared their experience of volunteering and the impact this had:
“I enjoyed working alongside the team at People's Kitchen, who are a friendly bunch, they are all there for the sole purpose of giving their time to such a worthy cause.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the People’s Kitchen, as I love being able to give back in any way I can to the community. It was amazing to see how lovely the food was and the variety that they offer to people in the community."
“I loved the experience. So, heart-warming. Everyone was so friendly. The owners are just wonderful and so inspiring all the hard work they put in to feed the community.”

Marine Conservation Volunteering – Ocean Alive (Portugal)
A team member participated in a volunteering initiative with Ocean Alive, the first cooperative NGO in Portugal focused on marine protection and environmental education.
The project, “Mariscar Sem Lixo” (Seafood Without Rubbish), involved coastal clean-up activities in the Sado estuary, targeting waste linked to fishing activity and visitor pollution. Participants supported waste collection and sorting, including recyclables, fishing materials, wood, and non-recyclable waste.
The initiative also contributes to wider educational efforts aimed at reducing marine pollution and protecting seagrass ecosystems through community engagement.
Our team shared their experience of the clean-up: “During the project, participants were divided into groups to clean different areas. At the end, it was still very sad to see the amount of trash collected but comforting to see so many people passionate into educating, chasing and changing the actions of others.”

Education & Youth Development – Young Scientists Tanzania
Beyond Bamboo Global provided support to Young Scientists Tanzania through its social enterprise initiative, Beyond Credits CIC.
The programme showcased and supported young innovators working across disciplines including science, engineering, mathematics, and technology, with a focus on addressing global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.
The initiative reflects a commitment to supporting education, innovation, and youth-led solutions to environmental and social challenges.
Internal Engagement – Nature & Planet Connection Initiative (COP28 Commitment)
As part of an internal engagement initiative, the team collectively focused on strengthening personal connection with nature and reflecting on environmental responsibility beyond operational activities.
Team members shared personal reflections on time spent in natural environments, including coastlines, forests, rivers, gardens, and urban green spaces. The initiative encouraged reflection on wellbeing, environmental awareness, and the relationship between individuals and the natural world. Some of our team live alongside nature in their everyday lives, and harvest olives or grow their own mushrooms!
This formed part of a broader cultural focus on reinforcing planet-conscious thinking across the organisation.
Global Youth Awards – Sponsorship & Youth Empowerment
Beyond Bamboo Global supports The Global Youth Awards as a main event sponsor, an international programme recognising young people (aged 11–25) leading social and environmental impact projects worldwide.
The initiative provides a platform for youth innovation, global collaboration, and personal development, with participation from multiple countries and a live-streamed international audience. There is also an array of musical performances from young people throughout the awards show, giving them a platform to perform and a wider audience reach. One of our own team members as a young person also got the opportunity to be a part of the day, hosting and presenting the environmental awards on behalf of Beyond Bamboo.
The programme also supports long-term engagement through ambassador opportunities, mentoring, and access to a global network focused on sustainability, leadership, and social impact.
Marine Conservation Volunteering – Sado Estuary Tróia (Portugal)
A Beyond Bamboo Global director participated in a marine conservation volunteering initiative in the Sado Estuary, Tróia, focused on protecting seagrass ecosystems and supporting biodiversity.
The activity involved clearing and protecting seagrass areas impacted by boat anchoring and mooring activities. These ecosystems provide important nursery habitats for marine species including seahorses, turtles, and shellfish, while also supporting carbon sequestration through the storage of carbon within marine biomass and sediment.
Community Volunteering – Setúbal Animal Rescue Centre (Portugal)
A Beyond Bamboo Global team member participated in a volunteering initiative supporting the Setúbal Animal Rescue Centre – O Cantinho da Milu in Portugal.
The activity involved harvesting oranges and tangerines from a donated local orchard, with proceeds from fruit sales supporting the rescue centre’s animal welfare operations. Beyond the picking, our team member met many new people, including a Sustainability teacher who invited them to speak to students about Sustainability in the Hospitality Industry—an unexpected and exciting opportunity. The initiative also encouraged community engagement and local collaboration while helping reduce food waste and prepare the orchard for the next season.
Community Volunteering – FoodCycle (London)
Tia volunteered with an organisation called FoodCycle who turn surplus food from supermarkets and restaurants into a 3-course meal for the local community. Around 70 members of the local community turned up to receive a warm meal, and volunteers get to be inventive with the meals made from the food available. She got to have a hand in all parts of the day, from food prep to serving and clearing away.
