Post-COP28 Actions and Our Commitment to Change

As the CEO of Beyond Bamboo Global, I was inspired and motivated into real action for our organisation by the commitments agreed upon at COP28. This landmark conference set a robust framework for addressing climate change and we are proud to align our initiatives with these global efforts as much as we possibly can and with alignment to our goals . We believe that it is only by working together that we can truly make significant change happen and that the time for just talking has long passed. Here’s an overview of the key actions from COP28 and the steps we are taking to contribute towards these transformative goals through our sustainable business practices and community-focused projects.

COP28 Commitments

1. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency COP28 has made a historic commitment to triple global renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030. This ambitious goal is essential to limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels (UNFCCC) (IRENA).

2. Loss and Damage Fund The operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund is a significant milestone, designed to help vulnerable countries cope with climate impacts that are beyond adaptation (World Resources Institute) (McKinsey & Company).

3. Global Goal on Adaptation A framework has been established to enhance adaptive capacity, resilience, and reduce vulnerability to climate change. This includes setting targets across various sectors such as water, health, and ecosystems(UNFCCC) (UNFCCC).

4. Finance for Climate Action Over $80 billion in climate finance commitments were secured, with innovative finance channels and blended-finance structures designed to attract private capital (McKinsey & Company) (Carbon Brief).

5. Transition Away from Fossil Fuels For the first time, nearly every country agreed to transition away from fossil fuels, with measures to phase down unabated coal power and phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies (Carbon Brief)(UNFCCC).

What We Are Doing

This coming month we will be launching Beyond Credits, an ESG Credit System where our clients will be able to support environmental projects that contribute towards reducing carbon at the same time as encouraging the use of renewable energies.

Beyond Credits will also provide funding for social projects that are in alignment with our goals and support the communities where our clients and their hotels have impact. We will be focusing on the impacts of climate change and supporting local projects that provide employment, capacity and resilience for those affected.

Beyond Credits will empower our clients to support people and the planet while they spend.

In July we also launched the World's First Planet Conscious Amenities Pack in partnership with the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, encouraging the 300+ member brands with over 55,000 hotels globally to transition to sustainable and ethical products for their customers. We have been delighted by the positive response and expressions of interest from some of the biggest brands around the world.

As a team we are constantly looking at the impact our organisation is having and how we can innovate and reimagine what is possible so that we are also on the Pathway to Net Positive.
