BB Team June COP28 Commitment
For the month of June we collectively agreed that our commitment to being even more #planetconscious should be focused on our individual connections with our beautiful planet. Our team are all passionate about going beyond sustainability to restore and rejuvenate the planet and see working for Beyond Bamboo as so much more than a job but it is good to remind ourselves as often as we can that our primary beneficiary for the work we do is Mother Earth. We encouraged our team to spend some time in nature and share something that made them feel connected…
‘Since moving out of the hustle and bustle of London to Puglia, I'm so thrilled to be around nature again. After living so close to the blue mountains and the beaches in Sydney for majority of my life, I missed being surrounded by the sea. I'm so grateful to again be so close to the water, and farms olive trees (some of which are thousands of years old) that surround the old city where I'm now based.’ - Alicia
‘I loved being able to wake up to this view in Crete. Having time away from my phone and being present in nature is amazing. I love listening to the waves passing by, as it is so calming and feeling the sand beneath my feet. It was also nice to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by on the mountains and islands in the distance, as the sun was setting. Nature really is a beautiful thing.’ - Kira
‘Living in London, I don't often get the chance to visit such places on a daily basis; however, when I do escape the city, I often find myself by lakes or beaches. It brings me so much peace and joy. As a Cancer, I feel a deep connection to water, which offers a perfect retreat from busy city life. These moments allow me to truly appreciate the beauty and calmness of nature. The sound of waves, the sight of clear waters, and the feeling of sand or grass beneath my feet remind me of the simple beauty our planet offers.’ - Barbara
‘I love water, and as the water sign of 'cancer the crab’, water is when I am in my element. I Iove to be beside the sea at night and listen to the waves; but I don’t like the strong tides so much and feel at peace and at one when swimming in rivers and lakes. A walk through forests or woodland, hills and valleys that culminates in a river swim, this is nature and my bliss. As I live in Portugal, I am privileged and blessed to be able to commit to spending time with nature all around me and benefiting from what mother nature has to offer.’ - Jacqui
‘I love my little community of street cats, and recently we have been joined by a family of hedgehogs who themselves love the cat biscuits. Seeing the connections between the garden, the animals and insects and myself leaves me with a great sense of peace.’ - Lovisa
‘I am living in the city but love the nature I make sure I go out 3 times a week in the beautiful garden space near my house and feed the birds there along with that spend time in the garden and enjoy the peace. It was beautiful with autmn leaves in April its much dry now but still pretty.’ - Nikita
‘London is an absolutely beautiful City and I don't really get the chance to appreciate it as much now working from home, especially when the weather is not great. But when the suns out I love to go by the river. You just cannot beat the calmness you feel overlooking southbank, just people watching and at the same time loving the hussle and bussle. I just get lost in my own thoughts just watching the world go by with a glass of wine in hand.’ - Nirmala
‘The beach has always been my comfort place. I've started running this year (call it the late 20's life crisis), and I'm very lucky to live close to the beach where I can run along the shoreline walking path. Since I do it in the morning before work I get to sometimes experience amazing sunrises, where I start to wonder if I really like the running or the sunrising and sea breeze first thing in the morning more!’ - Raquel
‘I love growing my own food, just wondering around my land picking a leave here, pulling up an onion there. I feel such a deep connection with nature, my land is full of flowers, birds and insects. I’m always working out how I give back to Mother Earth, either planting trees on my land to create a food forest. Planting sunflowers and watching all the animals benefit, from the bees once the flower blooms, to the ants once the flowers have past their best, too all the birds that come to feast on the seeds, to me replanting the extra seeds, sharing with friends. The connection changes as the seasons change. The mushroom growing is just another way to grow, I’m using my old coffee to grow my mushrooms so I’m growing on food waste, so I have waste that I now have transformed into food for myself, my neighbors & friends. Last week I swapped sone mushrooms with my neighbor & they gave me fresh goats cheese as a swap x’ - Sara
‘Prior to getting our dog Ari I was always a walker getting my steps in and also participating in long marathon walks etc... Always though I find you will notice something different each time even on the same route. I am also not very green fingered but recently I have enjoyed a bit of planting, weeding etc and seeing my flower beds change through the seasons (not killing nearly as many plants as before 🤣), photos attached. Flowers are my weakness and I saw a beautiful hanging basket on my walk yesterday (see photo). Also on my trip to Florence last week I enjoyed a moment of peace watching the sunset on Piazza Michealangelo, (photo attached).’ - Sonal
‘I moved out of my university accommodation over the weekend, and I'm really going to miss the Birmingham canals! I took the time to walk the route I walked so often at uni up a massive stretch of the canal system, because being out in nature helps to clear my thoughts and leave me at peace. You wouldn't think this hidden gem is right in a bustling city (and student area!) as all you can hear are birds and boats, and all you can see is the canal and greenery. Fun fact: Birmingham has more canals than Venice!!’ - Tia
‘Living in London means you make the most of being out in nature, often when it is raining and cold too. I love walking and love being around water. As you can see I have this on my regular walks. I also often catch the family of wild parrots that live in the woods and take as many discreet pictures as I can!’ - Ulpa
‘I am lucky enough to be a bit of a global nomad with many homes, one of my favourite being Hout Bay in South Africa. Every morning that I can before starting work I make sure I have time on the mountain. Meditating, hiking and taking in the beauty around me. Appreciating time in nature with my loved ones and always remembering to stop and smell the roses or hug a tree.’ - Tiffany
